A number of rural Australian secondary schools have banded together to present computer science classes over a distributed network of Macintoshes. They are interconnected by a voice repeater system (ie not a digipeater) and radio modems along with netcomm r-bridges (seemably appletalk to rs232 low speed bridges). Diagram below shows approximate configuration Where MAC represents about 5 Macintoshes on appletalk. MAC--RBRIDGE--MODEM--TX---------------------------------------- | | | MAC--RBRIDGE--MODEM--TX------------------------------------| | | | REPEATER | | MAC--RBRIDGE--MODEM--TX------------------------------------- | | | | MAC--RBRIDGE--MODEM--TX---------------------------------------- This configuration was proposed to them by a "consultant" and while it works on a point to point basis blows up when used in a fully networked configuration. The blow up seems to occur because the r-bridges get most confused when they see signals from greater than one other r-bridge (as might be expected!). The schools own the MAC's and the radio system, they can ditch the modems and the r-bridges. Has anyone successfully networked MAC's over a distributed radio system, if so, can you mail me the configuration and manufacturers names please? Many thanks in advance. -- P Tyers, Tel. +61-(0)3-5416794 JANET tyers%trlluna.oz@uk.ac.ucl.cs ACSnet tyers@trlluna.oz UUCP {uunet, hplabs, ukc}!munnari!trlluna.oz!tyers CSnet tyers@trlluna.oz ARPAnet tyers%trlluna.oz@uunet.uu.net MAIL: Telecom Research Laboratories,P.O.
