I believe Ronald Lamprecht (author of screen 58) posted an article to this
effect, but it failed to reach many places.

Due to EBCDIC/ASCII stuff, screen.58 was mangled and all 'balloons' (caret)
were replaced by tildes. Change them back or the screen will be impossible to
complete.
