Message-ID: <1092@ucrmath.UCR.EDU> Date: 8 Jun 89 14:58:22 GMT Sender: news@ucrmath.UCR.EDU Reply-To: jrich@ucrmath.ucr.edu (John Richardson) Organization: University of California, Riverside Lines: 22 We picked up an Encore Multimax for a good price and we are now thinking about trying to integrate into our network of mostly Suns. Compared to prices for Suns, the prices for disk and a Pascal compiler seem pretty steep. Does anybody have any experience attaching third party disks to the Encore? Will any embedded SCSI drive work? Any recommendations? Is there something about the Pascal compiler that makes it worth more, i.e., is it parallelized (careful not to say paralyzed :-)), exceptionally fast? Are there any third party Pascal compilers that somebody has used on the Encore? Anything like a GNU pascal? I have been told UMAX 4.3 will have full NFS support, both server and client sides. My informant did not know if YP was included. Does anybody know this?
