I am CURRENTLY using a MacPlus/SE/II -> Imagewriter I cable as the cable between my Mac II and my Hayes V-Series modem - so I can vouch for it working. It won't do hardware handshake (;-), but it is a standard modem cable!! I also know that back in the old days of the Mac, you could also use your IWI cables for modem cables then to, and since the change in the serial ports was not great enough to cause problems (provided you had the ->9 converter) you could still use the same cable to that as well.
