Keywords: Color PICTs, StartUpScreens Message-ID: <10974@orstcs.CS.ORST.EDU> Date: 4 Jun 89 21:50:48 GMT Sender: usenet@orstcs.CS.ORST.EDU Reply-To: flatmas@ladder.CS.ORST.EDU (Scott Flatman) Organization: Oregon State Univ. -- Computer Science Lines: 25 I have several color Mandelbrots in 8 bit color that I would like to make into StartUpScreens. So far all I have been able to accomplish is to get a 1 bit B&W ( *YEECH* ) picture at start up time. Here's what I tried: Paste a freshly made Mandelbrot( created with MandelZot 1.4) onto the clipboard. Then I launch ResEdit, create a new file titled 'StartUpScreen', make a new 'PICT' resource, and paste the picture into it. So far so good, the PICT shows in color inside ResEdit. I then get info and change the ID to 0. I then save it and quit resEdit. When I put the file into the system folder and reboot all that shows up is a *VERY* unsatisfactory B&W rendition of an otherwise beautiful Mandelbrot. How can I fix this? Another problem is with GIF files. This is what I tried with them: I tried to save them as PICTs using Vision Lab 0.67 saving them as StartUpScreens but the same thing happens, *UGLY* B&W. Any tips about getting *COLOR* PICT StartUpScreens? Preferrably 8 bits.
