By almost a unanimous "vote" the standard reference appears to be "Introduction of Compiler Construction with UNIX", by Axel T. Schreiner and H.George Friedman, Jr., Prentice Hall, 1985, ISBN 0-13-474396-2. Thanks to all who took the time to reply to my request. A trip to the local (bookstore, not pub, though, that might not be a terribly bad idea either :-) ) is definately in order.
