Although I have no positive knowledge, it seems to me that Stargate's "problem" with redistribution rules has been vastly overblown, to the point of being ridiculous. Only a negligible fraction of messages on the net ever carried redistribution restrictions. The "response from the net" was outraged screaming from a tiny minority. I cannot believe it had a major effect on Stargate's financial viability. What killed Stargate, it seems to me, was extremely slow progress towards putting it on a commercial footing (as opposed to a technology demonstration) plus the appearance of UUNET. -- You *can* understand sendmail, | Henry Spencer at U of Toronto Zoology but it's not worth it. -Collyer| uunet!attcan!utzoo!henry henry@zoo.toronto.edu
