V.32 seems to be the way to go. But all the V.32 modems that I've heard of only compress when they are handling async data. Running synchronous, they will give me 9.6Kbps, but no more. Can I do better than that? Error correction is not needed, since I will be using an error-checking protocol, but I suppose it's needed if the modems will be compressing what they send. Cost is not an issue -- I am willing to pay significantly more to get the throughput. -- Live justly, love gently, walk humbly.
