One problem is that the compression techniques used in the MNP5 modems
operate on characters. Sync doesn't have character framing like async, I
imagine this would complicate things some. Probably it is possible, but I
haven't seen any. I have heard of 14.4K V.32 modems, but I don't know if
I am allowed to give free advertising for the new owners of Tymnet.
