The best answer I can give now is: it depends on how your software is set up. For instance, on our PS printers, we have a printer driver that understands the names of the Adobe fonts and a set of style files to substitute those fonts for the LaTeX defaults. If I wanted the "troff" fonts, I would say \documentstyle[times,...]{...}
