But, in general, every engineer that has to work with Intel 80xxx knows that they are "bug for bug compatible with previous chips." This was the decision made by Intel - to incorporate previous bugs into new chips based upon the same architecture so that all those fixes for the original bugs would still operate with the new chips. That isn't a ridiculous decision. The main complaint of Intel chips is their lack of orthogonality, as compared to Motorola 68xxx chips.
