NO YOU DONT NEED ONE to connect your hayes modem to an Atari 800. If the cable your local computer store is referring is rs232 on one one and Atari SIO on the other end (if not this type of cable is available through Sura Corp), thats all you need. That will make your modem COMPLETELY compatibe with all the programs designed for the Atari SX-212 modem, including Determ, SX-Express, etc. This is how I've been using my modem for a few years, and it has always worked flawlessy.
