Yes, I've used all features successfully, with only a few problems. For one, you have to avoid using the cursor keys to move through the file list (you have to use the - and = keys); for another, the sort defaults don't seem to work (i.e., you have to key in the letter n to get a name sort, not just hit Return). In editing, you are restricted to overlay mode and must use F12 (BS) as your rubout key. No other problems that I can think of, and I use it to maintain my overall file list and new file list as well as the individual FILES.BBS. My overall/new file listings are generated automatically consequent to an Opus event. Doug Boone is a regular on the NEWOPUS echo, and he is very responsive to any questions concerning his products. --- * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (Opus 1:109/123 ------------------------------ Date: 12-20-89 (08:28) To: GEORGE THEALL Subject: RE: UUDECODE/UUDECODE From: FRANK MALLORY Your message with uuencoded file failed to reach me. It was deleted at my Fido hub because it exceeded the length limitation of the gateway software. The sysop of my hub mentioned a limitation of 20KB, but I thought we were limited to only 10KB. There is a uuencode program that will automatically break up long files into a series of shorter ones to meet any given size constraints, but I don't have it yet. I took the size contraint into account when sending those ZIPped messages to you, and I'm glad you received them OK and were able to uudecode them. I'll reply to your netmail msg over the weekend. I sent/received mail to/from the author of JOBSDUMP on Usenet concerning my problem with ReGIS image printouts. Fortunately, that problem went away (maybe because I reset my LA50?). I was going to JOBSDUMP the ReGIS image to a file, ZIP and uuencode it, and send it to him for analysis. I'll probably still do it, because it's kinda neat to be able to send an image to worldwide Usenet users. --- * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (Opus 1:109/123 ------------------------------ Date: 12-20-89 To: DAVID STRICKLER Subject: CONCURRENT DOS 386 From: VERNON BAILEY David - I checked my CDOS documentation and there is a possibility of using PC emulating terminals with CDOS386. The TERM.DAT file provided is for the Zenith Z29 which is basically VT100. There is also a CDOS 386/MGE (Multiuser Graphics Environment) which supports 4 graphics terminals via optic fiber interfaces. The documentation provided to the user is sketchy on these implement so I cannot give you more details. DRI has a board on Compuserve, perhaps you could put some of your questions there. If you do, please let me Know what you find. I could copy some of the pages in my documentation and send them to you if you want. I have just installed a Q540 hard disk in my RB and the operation was relatively easy. I am trying to write all this up for submittal to RB News. --- ConfMail V3.31 * Origin: The Pot of Gold - (703-359-6549) (1:109/103) ------------------------------ Date: 12-21-89 (08:00) To: DAVID HUGHES Subject: DEC STUFF From: GEORGE THEALL DH>Where can I get a Rainbow HD controller card? Anyone parted out DH>there DEC out there? Try calling Eustace Enterprises (1-407-433-0846 in the U.S.). As of September '89 they advertised a 20MB hard disk and controller card for $395. They might sell just the controller card, or you could use the drive as a backup. Suitable Solutions (1-408-727-9090 voice, 1-408-727-0823 FAX, 76666.3003@Compuserve.Com via email) are advertising a dual winchester controller card for $365 so this is another possibility. I'm not aware of any individuals (ie, not businesses) piecing out a system, but you might call Caroline Mack (1-618-632-1143) so see if anyone's placed an ad for a controller card in the next issue of _Rainbow News_. DH>Also acquired an ST-225, Seagate. What can that be formatted to? 20MB. I'd recommend using Tony Camas' program WUTIL to format the disk. You'll need v3.12 or better if you're running MS-DOS v3.x from Suitable Solutions. DH>And where can I find out more info about Windows for the RB? Suitable Solutions (see above for numbers) is selling a kit to adapt Windows for the Rainbow. Look at the most recent issue of _Rainbow News_ or back issues of messages in this Echo (Michael E. Macmillan posted SS's press release on 25-Oct-89). You'll need to run MS-DOS v3.10 but a 286 is not required. There are a few different ways to go about it. The easy way is to buy the complete Rainbow Windows/286 kit costs between $275 and $350 and includes a mouse and the Windows/286 v2.11 program from Microsoft. The cheap way is to buy Windows on the street (about $70 mail order), a serial mouse (about the same price), and the Rainbow Adaption Kit from Suitable Solutions ($89). It was deleted at FM>my Fido hub because it exceeded the length limitation of the gateway softwa Dumb, dumb, dumb!!!! I forgot to check the file size before sending it out. It was about 350 lines long, which puts it at about 20K in size. I guess a good rule of thumb is to break uuencoded files into pieces of 100 lines each. I feel *so* stupid. FM>because it's kinda neat to be able to send an image to worldwide FM>Usenet users. I'm still thrilled at being able to send email to users on Fido! Hmmm, maybe this will be a way for Caroline Mack to get involved in this Echo!?!? Although she's yet to get EchoMail up and running, she could simply subscribe to INFO-DEC-MICRO directly.
