According to the 1989 Test & measurement catalog of HP, page 712

the HP7980 provides backup solution to systems in the 400 MB to 2 GByte
range.  It operates at both 1600/6250 densities.
Support is provided on most HP3000, 1000, 9000 systems.
Cost is: $23,200
