Negatory, and you can blame me; I'm the person who persuaded the lab to do it this way: The 9-pin connector on current Series 300 computers was cloned (in 1984) from the one on the HP Portable (aka HP 110, HP 45710A). It was as much a standard as anything back then, and cables were available. It has neither the same sex nor the same pinouts as a conventional PC-AT port. The pin-out information is documented under the 98561-66530 (Model 320 human interface card) section of the 98561-90020 Series 300 Configuration Reference Manual (8/85). It may not have been documented elsewhere for later models. We need to address that. Starting with the Model 375 we are switching to the industry standard male 9-pin connector and pinouts. I will contact the keeper of the Workstation Configuration Guide and ask that BOTH sets of pinouts be included. By the way, netnews is a very slow and capricious way to get questions answered. If you have either HP TeamLine or HP ResponseLine software support services, you can direct questions about supported HP products, like this one, to your regional HP Response Center. HP people who respond to netnews questions are donating our time.
