Tom- We're currently using a Varityper VT600 to publish a weekly broadsheet college newspaper and we have very few complaints. The printer is fairly reliable and produces good quality copy. We're working on the halftone quality -- it's not quite there yet, but soon... One caveat -- they don't call it a "plain-paper imagesetter" for nothing. This machine is *not* a LaserWriter; it's incredibly massive, needs a fairly clean room and high-quality paper, and dislikes heavy workloads (optimum: page counts under 100/day and 500/week, needs servicing every 3000 pages). Price: $23,000. Advice: If you can afford it, it's a good machine. If it seems a bit expensive, wait ~6 months and there'll be new products. (maybe even one from Apple...nah.) -Michael T.
