Anyone out >there have any ideas? This is only an idea (ie. a guess :-) based on something I read in the hardware manual that I received with my LaCie 40M quantum external drive. Apparently, there is some kind of "ground" or "static strap" of some kind inside the drive that can produce a "whine". Whether or not this is the whine that you are hearing, I havn't a clue but according the breif explanation in my manual, the fix involves slightly bending this strap (or what ever).
