Please use the correct product name - the Macintosh Communications Toolbox.  
"Communications Manager" belongs to some of our esteemed competitors and we 
would not want to infringe on the look and feel of their name, eh?  :-)

1. I assume that you mean true background file transfers?  I'll take this as 
a feature request...

2. By serial port allocation, I am a bit confused.  The Communications 
Resource Manager provides support for developers to register ports with 
the CommToolbox which can then be accessed from an application (bypassing 
the Connection Manager) or via the Modem or Serial Connection Tools.

3. We are always working to improve support for all connection protocols.  
But keep in mind that the goal of the Connection Manager is not to expose 
all of the inner workings of a given connection/networking protocol but 
rather to present an abstraction of a data connection to the application 
so that the application can be written in a protocol independent fashion.
