Be careful, /stand/format has bugs(!). If you do:

$ what /stand/format
/stand/format:
Mips Computer Systems Version 4.30  Mon Jul 24 15:42:26 PDT 1989 root
Mips Computer Systems Version 4.30 MIPS OPT Mon Jul 24 15:39:17 PDT 1989 root

then you have a buggy version.
Your local mips office can get you a version that is labeled

$ what /stand/format
/stand/format:
Mips Computer Systems Version 4.31  Tue Sep 26 21:07:03 PDT 1989 hal
Mips Computer Systems Version 4.31 MIPS OPT Thu Sep 28 17:22:50 PDT 1989 hal
