I am seeking to install a disk drive on a SUN 3/140 WORKSTATION, equipped with a SCSI-3 Host Bus Adapter (SUN part # 501-1217). Currently I have two estimates from different vendors as follows: 1. CDC Wren VI, Model 94191, 766 Mb unformatted, 676 Mb formatted, $ 3095 2. Hitachi SCSI Disk Dr, Model 515C-78, 661 Mb formatted (5 1/4 in Dr.) $ 3025 Both quotes include shoe box enclosure, power supply and cables. The CDC Disk Dr has been guaranteed by the vendor to be installable and compatible with my SUN 3/140 running SUN-OS 4.0.3 , but I am not sure about the Hitachi. The Hitachi appears to be very reliable and perhaps newer technology. I would be grateful for any opinions comparing these disk drives. (I currently have a diskless 3/140 connected to a network of 10 SUN workstations, and I will be connected directly to our campus network once a disk drive is selected.)
