Subject: Tar files that fail  checksum

I got a file the other, which was a uuencoded, compressed, tar file.
when I tried to read it, I got a checksum a error.  Does anyone have
a good idea how I can work around this problem and say force a dump
for the tar tape, or skip the offending portion?
