It appears, BTW, that the ICCCM itself means "non-destructive cut" by
"copy"; from "2.6.1.3 The CLIPBOARD Selection":

	The selection named by the atom CLIPBOARD is used to hold data
	being transferred between clients, normally being "cut" or
	"copied", and then "pasted". ...
