I found a workaround almost immediately, and submitted the report only to fulfill my duty as a good citizen. I didn't know it was also going off to the gnu.gcc.bug newsgroup. Now it appears that each and every reader of that newsgroup will tell me what my problem is and that I should get the most recent copy of the compiler. Thank you very much, I appreciate your interest and concern, but, PLEASE, I know it already! Larry
