   CLIPS is a forward-chaining shell using the Rete algorithm that can run
   on any machine with a C compiler.  It was developed under a NASA contract
   and is distributed free to government agencies and at a charge of around
   $350 to others.  For more info contact:

   CLIPS was reviewed in the April 1988 issue of AI Expert.  One advantage of
   CLIPS is that you get the C source code, so you can modify it.  One dis-
   advantage is that it is not a commercial product, so it does not have all
   the bells and whistles that you would expect in one.
    
    Other shells that will run on UNIX platforms include Nixdorf's Twaice, 
    KES from Software A&E, and Nexpert Object.  I believe that ExSys
    Professional will also run under UNIX.  A number of companies will port
    their product to your UNIX if the $$$ are right.
