I am writing in response to your request for information on companies
using AI techniques to approve loans.  You can also add to your list
the insurance companies which are now using expert systems to approve
policies.

At the IJCAI, held in Detroit during August 1989, a number of vendors
presented demonstrations of their AI and expert system tools for business
uses.  Many of them listed their clients.  These included banks, insurance
companies, government agencies, and businesses of other kinds.

I don't now have a list of these clients, BUT i can give you the addresses 
of two of the expert system vendors.  They should be more than willing to 
supply you with information.  These are:

AICORP produces KBMS (Knowledge Base Management Tool) an object-oriented 
knowledge base development tool for large scale production applications. 
It runs on IBM mainframe and personal computers.  It uses expert system 
techniques and a natural language interface.

Software AE has a product called KES.  It is widely used in various 
applications.  They send out all kinds of information listing clients and 
their uses.  I saw a recent bit about the U.S. Customs Service using KES to build an expert system for use in screening forms collected under the Bank 
Secrecy Act to identify targets for investigations.
