I just read of a patent issued to researchers at UC Davis for OPTIMUL.  The
invention is for a transitional device which can drive fast optical media.  The
description wasn't too specific, but it looks like a chip level micro-LED
possibly.  Does anyone know the details of this (e.g. how fast is it?
how many optical interfaces/chip max., etc.)?
