I have off and on need to preview something with a real grayscale on an
ordinary printer [instead of on our PostScript printer with suitable
setgray's].  Can someone point me at references on hacking up somekind
of of halftoning/grayscale on a printer [like the hacks with all of the
profligate overprinting that manages to do a pretty good job with those
scanned images; techniques for doing what you can without overprinting
would be good, too......  thanks
