Keywords: virtual worlds, virtual reality, artificial reality, cyberspace Message-ID: <15244@well.UUCP> Date: 29 Dec 89 08:40:18 GMT Expires: 6 Jan 90 08:00:00 GMT Reply-To: bluefire@well.UUCP (Bob Jacobson) Organization: Human Interface Technology Laboratory, Univ. of Washington Lines: 41 CALL FOR VOTE: SCI.VIRTUAL-WORLDS Status Report and Change of Last Day to Vote -------------------------- On December 15, 1989, a CALL FOR VOTE was issued to create a new newsgroup, sci.virtual-worlds. The purpose of this newsgroup would be to provide a global nexus for researchers and developers of virtual- world systems, as well as a place for others to observe developments in this new field. Because there was some concern that voting might be slow due to the holidays, voting was to be continued until January 14, 1990. To date (December 28, 1989), we have received the following votes: For: 211 Against: 9 Clearly, there are considerably more than the required 100 net positive votes required to create this newsgroup. Also, many of these votes were received from sites across the U.S., Canada, and overseas; they represent a broad, geographically diverse opinion. Because of the great deal of interest expressed in this emerging field, and because many of the researchers and developers who have voted would like the newsgroup to be established sooner rather than later, VOTING ON SCI.VIRTUAL-WORLDS WILL CLOSE ON JANUARY 5, 1990. Votes will be announced at that time and plans for the newsgroup, if it is finally approved, will also be announced. If you have not yet voted, and wish to do so, please vote now. Your vote can be directed to hitl@hardy.u.washington.edu . Thanks for your continuing interest in sci.virtual-worlds. -- BOB JACOBSON, Associate Director, Human Interface Technology Laboratory University of Washington (FU-20), Seattle, WA 98195 USA (206) 543-5075 (voice), 543-5380 (fax) * bluefire@well.uucp >> "We can do virtually anything." <<
