The details escape me just now, but it's a simple change to recompile
patch to use /usr/tmp or whatever.

I'm not sure I'd like to see them dropped, just in case..., but I no
longer use them either.  I have installed Glen Overby's hard disk
bootstrapper (thanks Glen!) with fixes to start Minix with no operator
responses required, and than I run fsck out of /etc/rc.
