Apparently the problem was that I had put the ribbon cable connectors on the wrong drives. As it turns out there is a 'twist` ( 3 wires are reversed in order) on the 2nd(terminating) connector and it MUST go into df0: - Silly me, I didn't think it mattered which connector on the ribbon went to which drive since all the jumpers were indeed set correctly - I must have been thinkign autoconfig or something. MORAL: Those of you who someday bother to install a 2nd internal floppy (It's worth it to me for $90) do NOT unplug the ribbon cable on your current df0: or if you do put it back on the original df0 drive! The ribbon (non power) connectors are associated with their respective df_:'s.
