The people now handling Applefest (Expo Management) told me today that there will NOT be an Applefest in Boston this year as previously announced. There will however be some sort of a show that they will promote in early May near New Brunswick, New Jersey, but they are looking to include other computers besides Apple. The exact name and scope of the show will be announced publicly within the next couple of weeks.. They not only want to include Macs in the show, but are also trying to figure a way to include the "Blue" machines also. They claim the educational software vendors are demanding it.. They claim the reason they have moved the show from Boston, was that most of the same people attend each year, and the vendors want to see new faces.. But then on the other hand, they say the fall show will remain in San Francisco, where it appears (from their comments) that the same faces don't bother anyone.. I am unsure from what they said what has become of Cambridge Marketing, which they claim is still there, although most of the officials of that company are no longer around, nor is the public relations person.. They did imply that a lot of vendors from past shows are not signing up, and that is why they want to include other computers, so they can attract new blood in the vendor area. They also implied that as of today, they still do not have a FIRM COMMITMENT from APPLE that they will appear. Apple almost did not attend Applefest last fall, it was only in the weeks just before the show that they say Randy Battat (sp) of Apple came to the rescue of the Apple II folks and got them the needed funds to attend. With the above in mind, remember that at the Nov 28th meeting between Apple and the developers assn, Apple committed to appearing at the spring Applefest, and only in the December developers did the listing of the show first appear on the list of events where Apple would appear, but the promoter still has no direct word from Apple of this commitment. Of course, the promoters could not answer my question of how Apple would take to the idea of blue machines appearing at a show using the name of Applefest, which is a registered Apple Trademark. Perhaps they will call it something else, and say it incorporates Applefest.. So there we have it, the first "confirmed" sad Apple II news of the 90's.. -- bsherman@mthvax.cs.miami.edu | bsherman@pro-exchange | MCI MAIL: BSHERMAN >> Miami's Big Apple - 305-948-8000 - 24 hours - 300/1200 - PCP'able << >> Oldest Apple support board in Southeast.
