I think I have done everything that I have seen mentioned in this newsgroup. I removed the termination resistor pack (and replaced it with 1 K-ohm resistors) and replaced the drive select pullup resistor with a 1 K-ohm. I also buffered the drive select and side select lines coming from the sound chip. The computer now recognizes the external drive at boot-up, and seems to be able to read existing files written on other machines, but does not reliably write or format a disk. I borrowed a friend's external 3 1/2" disk just to check that the computer signals are there, and it worked just fine with no problems writing or formatting. Any help in solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
