Anyone parted out GT> DH>there DEC out there? GT> GT> Try calling Eustace Enterprises (1-407-433-0846 in the U.S.). As of GT> September '89 they advertised a 20MB hard disk and controller card for GT> $395. They might sell just the controller card, or you could use the GT> drive as a backup. GT> GT> Suitable Solutions (1-408-727-9090 voice, 1-408-727-0823 FAX, GT> 76666.3003@Compuserve.Com via email) are advertising a dual winchester GT> controller card for $365 so this is another possibility. IMHO, $300+ is entirely too much to pay for a HD controller, considering that 100+ systems (which include the HD controller, of course) are being advertised as low as $350 at present. My personal guideline has been to pay no more for Rainbow equipment than I would have to pay for the equivalent IBM PC item; this equates to $100 - $150 for a HD controller card. SS has dropped the price of the CHS dual controller card to $299, which might be justified if you have an application that absolutely requires two drives. Don't forget tho, the 64MB RD53 (available used for about $350) runs fine on the standard controller. --- msged 1.99L MSC * Origin: Silver Bullet - Silver Spring, Maryland - 301-622-2247 (1:109/123) ------------------------------ Date: 12-22-89 (17:03) To: DAVID HUGHES Subject: SUITABLE SOLUTIONS From: GEORGE TURNER The address is 1700 Wyatt Drive #12 Santa Clara, CA 95054 (408) 727-9090 --- * Origin: Midnight DEC - The place for DEC sales & information (Opus 1:101/45) ------------------------------ Date: 12-25-89 (17:52) To: GEORGE TURNER Subject: SUITABLE SOLUTIONS From: GEORGE THEALL GT>The address is 1700 Wyatt Drive #12 GT>Santa Clara, CA 95054 GT>(408) 727-9090 Let me remind everyone that Suitable Solutions is now accessible via electronic mail. Anyone parted out > there DEC out there? Got a RB 100B with the HD controller here for $325 if your interested. You will probably have to pay that much for a controller/drive anyways:-). > Also acquired an ST-225, Seagate. What can that be formatted to? You can format it to 20 meg with either the DEC utilities or WUTIL. Would suggest using WUTIL as it's much more versatile. Try Suitable Solutions for Windows and a mouse.
