You can get the marquee to work by beginning your drag well away from any file
entry.  For general use, this would involve making the window wide enough to
include about 3/4 inch to the right of the entries.  Then begin dragging out
there.

This isn't as neat as having regular expression file naming capabilities,
though.  (I have used patterns on a UNIX machine like "[0-9]*.tex".)
