We had the same problem.  No one seems to have 24-bit support right now.
Sun certainly doesn't.  They sent us a cg6 on loan.  Release 4 of X11
apparently has 24-bit support and will be available in mid January.  This
currently seems your best bet.  If you get other information indicating
availability of 24-bit support *now*, I'd certainly appreciate hearing
about it.
