(If you saved a copy, could you send it back to me? Thanks!!!) Basically, the fix involves telling gnus that you can't support long filenames by putting this with your other gnus stuff. (setq gnus-use-long-file-name nil) Then get rid of saved files that may be interpreted as kill files. They are probably in ~/News/ where is of the form "gnu.emacs.gnus". The setq will make newsgroup have the form "gnu/emacs/gnus". That way it won't collide with kill files that try to be named "gnu.emacs.gnus.KILL" but which actually get named "gnu.emacs.gnus" when truncated to 14 characters.
