     That's the error I get: "initializer for static variable is not constant".

If you get an error message from what seems to be valid input, then
you have found a bug (in your opinion).  Please report the bug to
bug-gcc@prep.ai.mit.edu.

There's no point telling the entire user community about it, if you
tell us and we fix it.
