Can someone tell me where in the gawk distribution ? And if it is no longer part of the distribution, can someone tell me where one finds this program ? If you think you have found a discrepancy between the documentation of a program and the source code supplied, that is a BUG. Please don't ask all the users whether it IS a bug. Just send a bug report. I can appreciate that you might not wish to sound presumptuous by assuming the problem is the maintainers' fault. However, our egos can survive a little presumption. The important thing is that all the users should not have to plow through bug reports in the guise of "is this a bug" or "can you tell me how to fix this" questions. Please report problems in GAWK or other miscellaneous GNU programs in bug-gnu-utils@prep.ai.mit.edu.
