I believe the acronym stands for "Space Launch Complex." I toured Vandenberg last spring and saw (but did not photograph -- that would be a security violation ;-) two other SLC-n sites that are used for ELVs. (Didn't get to see the AMROC launch complex.) SLC-6 was originally built for the USAF MOL (Manned Orbiting Laboratory) program of the mid-60s. The complex was moth-balled. It may be refurbished to launch the Titan IVs. -- Craig E.
