While reading the December 21, 1989 Computing Canada issue, the 'Special Report' dealt with Motorola, and its 68040. To excerpt: "The 32-bit 68040, announced in March 1989, featuring more than 1.2 million transistors on a single piece of silicon, and complete compatibility with the 68000 family..."
