Our own labs (Apple, IBM, Macintosh + termnal to VAX network) grew a small leaps at a time from 2 Apples to 24; from three PCs to 35, etc. and because of that adequate staffing was not addressed. We are finally hiring a staff member to supervise student workers (who do peer tutoring in applications) and to work with faculty to assist them in micro use. That supervisor will help faculty all over the "small" campus (perhaps 200 faculty) and the supervisors student assts. will help their peers. The job descriptions are important, but a new problem has arisen becasue of it. Since the position is working with faculty everywhere on campus, 1) should it report to the library? or 2) should it report to the computer center? Finally, can any of you share "general computing policies for use of microcomputers" that your institution might have developed. My thanks for your assistance. -Palmer Hall, Library Director St. Mary's University 1 Camino Santa Maria San Antonio, Texas 78228-8608
