This includes the hourly wireservice reports in over 100 categories, the Newsbytes computer industry news (twice/week) and the new syndicated feature groups for the columns of Dave Barry, Mike Royko, Miss Manners, Richard Lederer & Kinsey. (Starting next week) UPI is a U.S. newswire, so don't expect much Canadian news here yet, even in the group clari.news.canada (we're working on it.) Because of this, we naturally won't expect our paying customers in Canada to pay the same prices as the U.S. sites. (This feed is free with no obligation, however) Newsbytes on the other hand has a good quantity of Canadian computer news. But the best thing about it is that it brings computer news right away. The US magazines like InfoWorld take a week or more extra to make it to Canada -- the border is no barrier to modems, however! We'll be feeding all the groups into some machines at the University of Waterloo, which will be feeding them to U of T and Western. If you want to pick it up further from there, check for a feed and mail to me to let me know you're doing it. Primarily this will happen inside Ontario, but if other sites in Canada fed from Ontario are interested, they may join in too. If you are a leaf site and only wish to sample a few of the groups, that's fine too. Arrange it with your feed site. For admins, below you will find a shell script to create all the current ClariNet groups on your local machine only. It is a B news script, but can be easily modified. The groups are all created in one hierarchy, so it will be easy to remove them later if desired. A list of the groups with descriptions follows in another posting. ClariNet volume is approximately 1 mb/day if you get everything. ------ : script to create administrative groups : Be sure to feed 'clari.net.talk' back to your feed site for i in clari.net.announce clari.net.admin clari.net.products ; do /usr/lib/news/inews -C $i moderated
