	Ayrton Senna is considering quitting Formula One racing to join the
Indy circuit in the United States, the French sports daily l'Equipe
reports. The driver is feuding with Formula One authorities and might
join Brazilian compatriot Emerson Fittipaldi on the Indy circuit.

	The Pittsburgh Pirates announced losses of $1,293,926 in 1989,
attributing the deficit to rulings arising from union grievances on free
agents. The team drew a profit of $2,850,660 the previous year.

	SuperSonics star Dale Ellis was arrested for alleged drunken
driving after a one-car accident in downtown Seattle early Friday left
him with two broken ribs and a collapsed lung. He will be out
indefinitely. ... Lost for the season is Magic center Dave Corzine, who
underwent major knee surgery.

	Big Ten Commissioner James Delaney reprimanded former Michigan
Coach Bo Schembechler for criticizing the officiating in the Rose Bowl.
Delaney said the postgame comments were ``in violation of conference
unsportsmanlike conduct provisions.'' ... The Trans America Athletic
Conference has invited Florida International to become a member
beginning July 1.

	Greg Norman sank a 15-foot eagle putt on the final hole, sealing a
course-record 63 and a one-shot lead over Curtis Strange after two
rounds of the $800,000 Palm Meadows Cup.

	Detroit running back Barry Sanders and Kansas City linebacker
Derrick Thomas were named the NFC and AFC Rookies of the Year by UPI.
Sanders, who gained a club record 1,470 rushing yards, was a unanimous
choice among 42 writers covering NFC teams. Thomas beat out Denver
running back Bobby Humphrey and Denver safety Steve Atwater.

	Former Detroit Red Wing Bob Probert, convicted of importing cocaine
into the United States from Canada, will be allowed to remain in America
while his appeal of a deportation order is being decided. ... Former
Duquesne basketball star John Moore, 31, has been indicted by a federal
grand jury on charges he made more than $27,000 in fraudulent loans and
kept the money.

	Armin Bittner of West Germany won a World Cup slalom in 1:56.26.
Michael Tritscher of Austria was second (1:56.32) and Italy's Konrad
Ladstaetter and Japan's Tetsuya Okabe of Japan tied for third (1:56.65).
Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland won the combined event.

	Defending champion Ivan Lendl is the top seed in the 128-man field
for the $3 million Australian Open, which begins Monday. Steffi Graf,
the women's top seed, is chasing her third straight Australian crown.
... France's Yannick Noah routed Lendl 6-1, 6-4, in the quarterfinals of
the New South Wales tourney. Boris Becker fell to fellow West German
Charlie Steeb while Michigan teenager Amy Frazier reached the semis.

	Three-time Alaska Iditarod winner Susan Butcher held the unofficial
lead of the John Beargrease sled dog marathon for the second day. The
race is named after John Beargrease, who delivered mail by dog sled
along Lake Superior's North Shore from 1887 to 1900. The winner is
expected to finish Saturday afternoon.
