We are experiencing an intermittent problem with either HDB UUCP or
our Hayes 2400 external modem connected to a Wyse 3216 running
SCO Xenix 2.3.1.   What is happening is that UUCP is dialing out to
a site(s), actually connects modem to modem, but the response code
that shows up is only a partial CONNEC message, thus UUCP does not
think a connection has been made.  Here is a sample of the session
done with uutry:

I know this has to be something relatively simple, but I have spent many hours
on this problem now (including replacing modems, serial cards, etc.) to
no avail.  If anyone can see anything obvious, please assist with this
