No need to wade through those zillions of lines Steve, the problem
is not in the code. I had almost forgotton about this, but I saw the
same thing when I built the library. The problem is with the configuration
in the Makefile.

I don't recall for sure everything I might have tweaked to get it to work
but one thing I know I did was comment out the PIPE_AS option. I think
that will be enough to get it to work, but in any case there is no code
problem here, just configuration.
