If you could painlessly use C libraries for forth functions rather than endlessly reinventing the wheel, or perhaps reinventing the Tower of Babel, you could get the same productivity boost that is probably one of the major factors in C's success. HS/Forth does have a facility for using C libraries, but to date I don't know enough about C to really understand how to make use of it, so I can't say how "convenient" or "painless" it actually is.
