I have had a Xetec/Quantum 80Mb drive on order from a supplier for 4 months now and I still haven't got it. I cannot go elsewhere; they are the sole importers of Xetec stuff and I was given a VERY competitive price. I had set my heart on the Xetec drive because it is quick, but I can't wait any longer. I am going to have to get something else, and I now like the look of the A590 as memory expansion is in my very near future, and I can get 256*4 drams and the drive itself very cheaply, due to discounts etc. Now, the A2090A is better than the Xetec under standard conditions (though dire with overscan - I can live with that), so: a) is the A590 based on the same interface as the A2090A ie does it have the same performance characteristics? Has anyone done a benchmark on it? b) 20Mb/80ms is far too small/slow. Can I whip out the standard drive and drop in another standard 3.5" SCSI drive (say a Quantum 40S?) Please post/mail quickly, as I am going to have to place an order for something in the next 7 days. Any personal sentiments/feelings on the A590 welcomed. Thanks in advance for any help, Phil < under construction >
