You don't kill the statue, but you do punch the ball. 8 or so punches
breaks it, so you must time things so not to get singed. When you
break the ball you have a super-punch which is used to kill a large
grey thing that needs to be hit 18 times (or thereabouts) - to find
him, get the super-punch,go to the teleport (just keep going right,
it's the egg-timer shaped thing), into that, up the ladder and go
right. Ten seconds of disk access, then along he comes. Pump him full
of lead (?) but DON'T let him OR the statue behind you touch you -
run back if you must. He'll move towards you, retreat, move towards
you, retreat,..3 times before he crushes you and you die no matter
how many lives you have!
 The key (the first one - there is one later on!) gets you out of the 
cavern.
