IF an all-products Computer Faire were held instead of an >Apple-only exhibition I (and many others) might be able to justify the cost of >travel to and from as well as the cost of being there. As it is, as much as >I'd like to see new stuff and meet old friends I can't afford it. >/steve Well it appears that you just may have your wish. The material I received today from the show promotors includes the statement they are mailing to exhibitors and a press release.. They announce the show moving to the "New York Metro Area", Somerset, N.J. which is way out of New York. The say this will increase the amount of people that can attend the show, but then they say they expect 20,000 visitors (Gee, they claimed higher figures than that at previous shows). They claim the exhibitors did not want to see the same faces each year as they claim they have in Boston each year, so the show has a new home (gee, don't the same faces appear yearly in San Francisco, and wouldn't the same faces show up each year in New Jersey?? I guess they don't want to see me face again either, I only bought 2 hard drives at one show, and about $700 worth of stuff at the other one).. Applefest will be combined on the same floor with ComputerFest. Isle 100 will be Apple only booths, 200-600 will be open for all comers, and starting at isle 700 will be only PC vendors.. Tickets for either show will be valid for both shows and conf. areas.. They say they are pushing to make "Applefest work to become the key NATIONAL SHOWCASE FOR MACINTOSH classroom applications now and into the nineties" ( is there a message there about Apple II participation??) They say this location will allow vendors to reach more "educator buyers and top quality home users" and "decision making educators and active, affluent home users". ( Gee, I guess they are not interested in getting any business users). They also claim hotel rates there are more than 30% less than Boston.. They might be right.. What visitor to New York stays near New Brunswick N.J.? One other important item.. They have changed the dates to May 4-6, 1990, that is a week earlier than announced so they would not conflict with the Apple Developers Conf. the following week in California.. Now here is the kicker!!!! They say at this time "we don't know whether, or how much Apple will be supporting the show". All of the above information was sent to me by Andy Calkins, the show director of the promoters, so you can take it as official.. Some of my thoughts!!! First Apple forces them to include Mac at Applefest, and ruin the only show Apple II folks had (Mac has several of it's own), and now Apple is not even sure if they will support the show.. which is being further watered down by the addition of IBM, Commodore, Atari etc.. Show Apple owners support the show?? The same show the promoters say they want to make the key national showcase for Macintosh???? What are your thoughts?? -- bsherman@mthvax.cs.miami.edu | bsherman@pro-exchange | MCI MAIL: BSHERMAN >> Miami's Big Apple - 305-948-8000 - 24 hours - 300/1200 - PCP'able << >> Oldest Apple support board in Southeast.
