Assuming a modem MUST always assert DCD even > when it's on-hook? > For what it's worth, a ZOOM (tm) 2400 external I had occasion to sample recently (ROM rev. level 9) had _DCD_always_on_ as its factory-default setting (obtained with AT&F). It, however, ignored its own DCD output on pin 8, and connected (signalling CONNECT) and disconnected (going on-hook and signalling NO CARRIER) just as sweet as you please, in originate mode at 2400 and 1200, with the CD light and pin 8 signal on the whole time. So: no unexpected phone bills on this account. (Never tried answer mode; gave it back cuz 300 baud acted flaky, and I still -- occasionally -- need that.)
